ASTM A181 grade 1 is a carbon steel material specification used for nonstandard, as-forged pipeline components like flanges, pipe fittings, rings, valve components, round bars, and other forging parts. The specification includes two classes: ASTM A181 class 60 and ASTM A181 class 70, with each forging limited to a maximum weight of 10,000 lbs.

There are several types of ASTM A181 flanges available, including weld neck flanges, slip-on flanges, threaded flanges, socket weld flanges, orifice flanges, spectacle blind flanges, long weld neck flanges, and reducing flanges.

SA 181 grade 1 is widely used across various industries and sectors due to its increased strength. This material is less likely to stress and break under pressure compared to other types of steel, making it particularly effective in applications requiring high strength. Although SA-181-70 shares the same basic composition of iron and carbon, different types of steel can include a variety of alloying elements. This grade has a carbon content of up to 2.1% by weight. As the carbon content increases, the steel becomes harder and stronger with heat treatment but less ductile. Without heat treatment, its weldability decreases.
